ROCKETS DE-RAILED WITHOUT A-TRAIN
Thursday August 07, 2014
An under-strength Silver Ski Rockets did well to restrict Ipswich to a 55-40 score-line in Suffolk.

The Rockets had to fend without Anders Mellgren, who had a racing commitment in his native Sweden, and were only permitted a National League guest as cover. Marc Owen filled the spot, but understandably only managed a point from three rides, with the A-Train’s other programmed ride garnering an additional point.

In the Swede’s absence, Steve Boxall (12), Edward Kennett (10) and Jason Garrity (7+2) gave the Rockets stability, and also provided their four heat wins, although there were also positives elsewhere.

Rye House promoter Len Silver was accordingly upbeat about the result when talking afterwards. “To score 40 points without our second best rider was not a bad performance at all.

“The only points we gained from Anders’ rides were from a 5-1 against and when one of their riders was off a 15 metre handicap for originally exceeding the time allowance.

“I’m not saying that we would have beaten Ipswich with Anders in the side, but we would certainly have reached 40 without the use of Tactical Rides.

“It was a good all-round performance and everyone rode well. Steve (Boxall) was very good, and I have to say that Edward (Kennett) was a real hero. He crashed heavily at Newcastle a couple of weeks ago and hurt his shoulder, and it is still giving him a lot of pain…. so much so that he had to pull up in his third ride because of it. He then came out and won Heat 13!”

“I was also particularly pleased with young Oliver (Greenwood), who did all that was expected of him at this stage of the game.”

Rye House scorers:

Steve Boxall 12 (5 rides, inc 4 as a TR), Edward Kennett 10 (4 rides, inc 6 as a TR), Jason Garrity 7 (5), Oliver Greenwood 4+1 (5), Jason Bunyan 3+1 (4), Luke Bowen 3 (4), Marc Owen (guest) 1 (3)

Ipswich scorers:

Richie Worrall 11 (5 rides), Ritchie Hawkins 10+2 (5), Gino Manzares 8+3 (4), Morten Risager 8 (4), Rohan Tungate 7 (4), Cameron Heeps 6+1 (4), Adam Ellis 5+1 (4)

Match Points: Ipswich 3 Rye House 0

The Silver Ski Rockets will welcome Anders Mellgren back to the fold as they continue to zig-zag across the country these next two nights. They face a tough trip to Sunday’s Fours winners Somerset tomorrow (Friday) before hosting the League Champion Rebels at Hoddesdon on Saturday night (7pm start).
