“BP Mitchell” Rocket Edward Kennett safely navigated his Semi-Final round at Sheffield on Thursday night to qualify for the National Final, to be staged at Belle Vue’ National Speedway Stadium on Monday, June 11th.

The former international Lion and Cardiff Wildcard racked up a couple of race wins, also featuring in a number of dramatic races, in his 10 point haul, to make the cut for The Big night with a full 3 points to spare.

Rye House colleague Max Clegg found the going more difficult, contributing three third places to finish with the same number of points.

The round was won by former Rockets star Jason Garrity, who delivered a faultless maximum, although Kennett pushed him all the way when the pair met in Heat 7, having earlier defeated fellow rostrum men Kyle Howarth and Josh Auty in Heat 4.

The other qualification spots were taken by Robert Lambert, Rory Schlein, teenager Dan Bewley and defending Champion Craig Cook.

7-time British titlist Scott Nicholls and 3-time winner Chris Harris will have the opportunity to join Kennett in Manchester when they race in the competition’s second Semi-Final at Leicester next Tuesday.
