Proof that the 2018 SGB Premiership season is just around the corner comes in the unveiling today of the BMR Rockets’ full fixture list.

There’s more than a slight sense of déjà vu in the Rockets’ opening home meeting, which will take place on Easter Monday with a 3pm start time. 2017 saw the Hertfordshire club announce its arrival in the top flight with a stunning 51-41 victory over defending League Champions Wolverhampton, and 2018’s first match in Hoddesdon once again sees Rye House entertaining the current titlists, this time in the shape of Swindon.

In this case, it will be in the first round of the Knock-Out Cup, with the Rockets looking to complete an aggregate success after the previous day’s first leg in Wiltshire – and also make a bold statement against opposition that proved a real bogey team for them in 2017, not only eliminating them from the same competition at the first hurdle but coming out on top in no less than five of the sides’ six encounters overall.

2014 League Riders’ Champion Troy Batchelor, World Cup Roo Nick Morris and exciting Pole Tobiasz Musielak will be in town on Easter Monday, with Scott Nicholls, Chris “Bomber” Harris and the rest of the BMR Rockets eagerly awaiting them.

The Premiership’s move to fixed race nights for 2018 means that the Rockets will have nine Wednesday night and six Monday home fixtures in their racing calendar – although four of those Monday dates will be on Bank Holidays.

In addition to Easter Monday’s Cup clash against the Robins, the Black, Chrome and Orange will host Somerset – complete with reigning World Champion Jason Doyle! – on Bank Holiday Monday, May 7th, A10 arch-rivals King’s Lynn in May’s second holiday on the 28th, and Grand Prix star Martin Vaculik and the Leicester Lions on August Bank Holiday Monday, the 27th, when the two clubs meet both home and away on the same day.

Other Hoddesdon red letter dates include clashes against perennial title challengers Poole – who include 2012 World Champion Chris Holder and 2016 Aussie National Champion Brady Kurtz in their ranks – on Monday, May 14th and Wednesday, July 18th, and intriguing visits from newly crowned Australian titlist and reigning British Championship holder Craig Cook as part of the Belle Vue Aces on Wednesdays June 20th and August 1st.

Night-time meetings in Hoddesdon will have a 7.30 start time.

That’s just a taster of the BMR Rockets’ 2018 calendar.

The count-down is now well and truly on!
